Simon Hill’s Warming Apple Cinnamon Oats

3/4 cup/2.6 oz/75g Rolled Oats
1 ¼ cup/10 fl oz water
1 tsp/0.2 fl oz/5ml pure maple syrup drizzled on top
1 Medium Apple
1 tsp/0.5 g cinnamon
2 tbsp/0.5 oz ground or whole flaxseeds (also called Linseeds)


  1. Add oats and water to a saucepan on high heat, add chopped apple (or leave out if you prefer it raw and crispy) cover and cook until bubbling
  2. Stir in the cinnamon and wait until the water is almost completely absorbed but the oats still look creamy.
  3. If you overcook them and they look dry, add a tbsp of water or plant-milk to make it creamier.
  4. Transfer to a bowl, and garnish with extra cinnamon, maple syrup and fruit if you have kept it raw.
If you prefer a cold breakfast, this recipe can easily be made overnight – just add all the oats and cinnamon to a jar, top with apple and add enough water or almond milk to cover the ingredients .
